Subject: Review of the Supplement
This is the first volume of the of the Supplemental Nights of the Richard Burton Translation. The Burton Translation is in 17 volumes. This version has only 16 volumes. Volumes 1 to 10 contain the complete transltion from the Arabic printed orginal at Bulaq Press.
The seven or in this case six volume supplement contain the additional stories that are not mentioned in the printed edition but are found in other manuscripts that Richard Burton was able to consult
This is THE translation and as the title says it is "A plain and literal translation" with many notes from an expert observer of the area. Be aware that many of the notes are quite racy and not sutible for children.
Translation is a bit dated and the translators vocabulary is quite extensive from a master linguist. This translation has quite comprehensive notes and comments with quotes in many languages.
